Training Resources and Methods

Partners for Progress and the Alaska Court System work together to provide a variety of therapeutic court training resources including:

  • National Drug Court Institute (NDCI) specialized professional training for therapeutic court judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, court coordinators and administrators, treatment providers and probation officers.  These in-depth training sessions require several days at the National Judicial College at Reno, NV or the Judicial Training Center in Ananapolis, MD.
  • Training sessions in Alaska arranged with experts who can address emerging therapeutic court interests and needs.  Generally these sessions are attended by individuals from a number of communities, for example:
  • Training for therapeutic court district attorneys and public defenders in Anchorage conducted by an expert from NDCI.
  • Training on therapeutic court sanctions and incentives attended by therapeutic team members from a variety of Alaskan communities.
  • The Learning Together Series in Anchorage arranged so team members from all the therapeutic courts in Anchorage can hear from people in the community who offer relevant resources.  Topics have included housing, the Food Bank of Alaska, dental services provided by the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center, MRT® for adolescents, the Federal Supervised Release Program, and a local attorney speaking about Social Security and Disability claims.  Learning Together sessions are informal lunch hour events.  Partners for Progress welcomes suggestions for topics and speakers.
  • Visits to the Anchorage Wellness Court   Perhaps the best way to learn about therapeutic courts is to sit in on a session of the Anchorage Wellness Court.  Partners invites visitors, escorts them to court and provides them with information packets.
